Only 9% Trust Leadership Messaging Completely

The Contact Monkey Global State of Internal Communications 2026 report centers on what it calls the culture gap — the distance between what organizations say they want from IC and what they've resourced the function to actually deliver. 67% of IC teams have five or fewer people. Nearly one in five is a team of one. And 54% say they don't have the resources to deliver the strategy they have in place.

The trust numbers are the real story. Only 9% of employees completely trust leadership messaging. And while 95% of organizations collect employee feedback, only 15% clearly communicate what they've done with it. Chuck and Jenni both call this out directly: you're asking people to speak up, and they're hearing nothing back. That's not a comms problem — it's a leadership credibility problem. You can't fix it with better messaging.
